Tools & Equipment

When you join MakerSpace, you will need to complete a basic workshop safety induction before using the Shed.

This induction will require you to read the Workshop Manual

This will give you access to basic hand tools and low risk, cordless drills and sanders for example.

For the equipment and machinery that carries a higher risk, MakerSpace uses a system called "Micro Credentials" to introduce members/users to the operation of equipment at MakerSpace safely.

Some of our equipment is higher risk and requires members to earn a badge before being able to use it. Badges are earned by undertaking a range of learning activities which may include watching a video, passing a quiz and obtaining an in person sign-off from an authorised facilitator or volunteer. A list of all tools is being built (slowly) and can be found here: Equipment

Buddy System

siblings_3045510.png

For your safety, tools identified with the symbol on the left must not be used alone by a member in the space. The Buddy System requires another person who is willing and able to respond in an emergency to be identified, informed and consent that they are acting as a buddy.  This buddy must remain in the space and be able to observe if any issue arises. The designated buddy must be able to see and hear their partner in person (not just video). The buddy must inform the member operating the tool if they intend to leave so that the tool operator can stop use of any tools requiring the buddy system.
